Kindred Spirits Meet at Ala Moana Beach
Lorrin was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. A quiet, conservative Chinese-American. He grew up in a family with 4 sisters and spent the early years of his life living in one bedroom with his parents and 3 sisters. Sleeping 6 in a room with no closets for 9 years. They were very close in those days, literally. Nina is from New Jersey, a Slovak-American. Lorrin met Nina sunning on Ala Moana Beach in Honolulu in the spring 1976. After 5 years of being with each other daily, they married in 1981. It was a meeting of soul mates.
A Passion for Education to the Next Level that Will Continue for Life
In 1959, Lorrin attended the University of Hawaii for Civil Engineering and in 1963, the University of Michigan for Architecture. Before just one semester left for gradution, his education was interrupted for service in the military. In 1970, after serving his country in the military, he went back to the University of Michigan and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture. Lorrin paid his university tuitions without any support from his parents with a student loan, scholarships, and working part-time during college and in the summer months. Always a passionate learner, he continues to read over 300 books and magazines a year. His favorite subjects: health, fitness, vegan, business, finance, stocks, cruises, and world travel.
Treasured Military Leadership Experience during the Vietnam War
In 1966, Lorrin was drafted into the United States Army in Chicago. At this time, the USA was involved in the Vietnam War. Though he did not want or plan on going into the military, he decided to make the best out of the situation. After boot camp at Ft Campbell, Kentucky ...he signed up to become an officer. He went through Advanced Infantry Training where he learned to use all types of weapons. Upon completion, he attended Officer Candidate Quartermaster School at Ft. Lee, VA. Upon graduation as a Graves Registration Officer, he took a chance with his life and volunteered for Vietnam. Fortunately, he was assigned to serve as an U.S. Army Officer in Okinawa. There, with a Top Secret clearance, he served in the 2nd Logistical Command as a 1st Lieutenant in charge of special projects. He lived a dream life on the island with maid service for 6 days a week. Today, he credits his military leadership experience as one of the highlight of his life.
National Architectural Experience
During the military, Lorrin was the architect of the General's Conference Room...were he designed unique tables, microphones in the ceiling, and one of the world's largest rear view projection system. He worked in Michigan for Architect Tivadar Balogh and Architect Gunnar Birkerts. Lorrin worked as an architect in Chicago for internationally known Skidmore Owings & Merrill, architects of the Burg Khalifa (world's tallest building). In Detroit for Urban Planners Crane & Gorwic. In Seattle for NBBJ known for stadium designs. Plus, many architects in Hawaii such as: Clifford Young, Leo S. Wu, Aotani & Oka, and Geoffrey Fairfax. Through his love for design and architecture, he has traveled the world to see many famous architectural projects.
Achievements and Awards
Lorrin, a Honolulu Marathon finisher, was recognized for his talent as an Architect. His award-winning kitchen and unique furniture designs has been featured in Sunset and other magazines. The University of Michigan Architecture Library selected 500 of his architectural photos for inclusion in their collection. He is recognized in Outstanding Young Men of America, Who's Who in America, Who in the World, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Dictionary of Distinguished Americans, Personalities of America, and Community Leaders of America. He has also won awards in photography and ceramics.
A Personal Development Seminar Leader
In 1976, he retired from architecture and founded The Lorrin Lee Program for Personal Development and Entrepreneurship. A self-taught Seminar Leader, he shared his knowledge on problem-solving, relationships, and metaphysics. His fees for 2.5 days started at $85 and after 5 years, ended at $500 a person. His world famous graduates include 4-time Olympic Gold Medal Champion Pat McCormick, Best-Selling Author Robert Kiyosaki of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and popular local Hawaiian musician Henry Kapono.
A Multi-Dimensional Entrepreneur in Many Ventures
As a youngster, Lorrin delivered papers to earn money. While in school, he served as Junior Achievement banker (his first experience in business). His background as an Explorer Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and hiking and camping with the Sierra Club ... has helped him learn survival training in the wilderness and business. Lorrin has had his own businesses which involved marketing — seminars, chocolates, health products, metaphysical books, boats, travel tours, and pen pals.

A Sky High Home in Paradise
They live on the 24th floor of the Ala Wai Plaza where they enjoy a panoramic views of the Koolau Mountain Range of Manoa, Waikiki, Diamond Head, and the Pacific Ocean. This is where Lorrin spends most of his time at his home office. They work out in their gym and swim in their pool for exercise. Their backyard is the Ala Wai Park, where they stroll along the Ala Wai Canal, and see the wild silver doves, mynahs, red cardinals, brown sparrows, java rice birds, green singing finches, and fish in a stream. On weekends, they enjoy hiking in the mountains, valleys, and beautiful beaches in their island paradise. They also like to have fun picnicing at local polo matches and lunches at Haleiwa. They believe in living a simple, frugal, minimal lifestyle full of adventure.
Lorrin and Nina have Similar Favorites
They simply enjoy spending time together reading, traveling, hiking, swimming, camping, watching TV and DVDs, and listening to their Hawaiian and Celtic CDs. They are enthusiastic investors in the stock market and own stocks of many of the world's greatest companies. Their pets have included fish, cockatiels, love birds, doves, and java rice birds. They eat mostly fresh organic fruits and vegetables and prefer raw or steamed foods. It's Fun to Enjoy Life in Many Different Ways
Instead of collecting material things, Lorrin and Nina collect exciting, new experiences. They believe that travel is the greatest eduction and encourage everyone to see their "home": the world. They have traveled by foot, hitchhiking (Lorrin did this alone in the USA), bicycle (in China), moped, car, bus (Greyhound around the USA and Trafalgar Tours in Europe.).
Train (in USA, China), boat, ferry, horseback, mule (into the Grand Canyon), hayride, buggy, balloon (Over Palm Springs, CA). kayak, motorhome (in Washington), underground, metro, taxi (black cab in London), shotover jet (New Zealand), camping (in Hawaii) and soaring in a glider plane (in Hawaii), and whitewater rafting in Alaska and Washington's Wenatchee River.
They have flown in a helicopter, glider plane, and other aircrafts. They even flew in a 4-passenger plane within 100 yards of the former New York World Trade Center (today, they would be shot down). Lorrin has traveled over 6 months all over Europe (over 50 cities). He and Nina have climbed Hawaii's Stairway to Heaven (3,922 steps one way up this stair and back down again.) in Hawaii, their favorite hike. Plus, the Koko Crater Stairs (1,020 steps) on Oahu.
Lorrin and Nina Just Love to Be on World Cruises
They have been on 8 cruises, including the QE2 World Cruise from Hawaii through the Panama Canal to New York, Sun Princess Cruise to Alaska, Carnival Cruise to Mexico, Voyager of the Seas Cruise to Bermuda, Explorer of the Seas to the St Martin, St Thomas, St John, and Puerto Rico. Of course, add the Hawaii Cruises on the Independence and Norwegian Star. Ruby Princess for Aruba, Bonaire, Dominica, Grenada, St Thomas, Eleuthera, and Princess Cays, Bahamas. Plus, the Star of Honolulu. Holland America's Noordam Cruise to St Kitts, St Lucia, Martinique, Barbados, Tortola, and Half Moon Cay, Bahamas. Holland America Lines' Volendam to Asia. Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas (largest ship in the world in 2017.)

  15. Denmark - Copenhagen. Went to Tivoli Gardens 5 times.
  16. Dominica - Sulphur Springs. Waterfalls. Crab in National Park. Botanical Garden.
  17. Eleuthera - A part of the Bahamas, though like a separate country. Interesting peaceful coastline.
  18. England - Bath. Bristol. Chester. Cotswalds. Coventry. Harrogate. Lancaster./ London for Poon's delicious chinese food. Oxford. Stonghenge. Stratford-upon-Avon. York.
  19. Fanning Island - No running water. Bicycled this tiny island. Visited here from a Princess Cruise ship.
  20. Fiji - Brought their inflatable boat for ocean kayaking.
  21. Finland - Alta. Helsinki. Honningsvaag. Jarvenpaa. Jyvaskyla. North Cap. Oulu. Rovaneiemi.
  22. France - Avignon. Lyon. Nice. Nimes. Paris, hiked up to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Loved the sidewalk cafes and lovers kissing everywhere. Ronchamp (Visited the Chapel by Le Corbusier, Lorrin's most inspiring architectural masterpiece.).
  23. Germany - Berlin. Loved visiting the magnificent Zoo and Checkpoint Charlie Museum. Frankfurt, walked this city for miles. Munich. Nuremberg for delicious original gingerbread.
  24. Grenada - The Spice Island. Especially nutmeg. Wild monkey on me was fun.
  25. Guam - Nice and warm. Friendly people.
  26. Haiti - We enjoyed ourselves at Royal Caribbean's private estate. Swam. Ate. Relaxed.
  27. Hong Kong - InterContinental Hotel, Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. Apple Store. Hop On Hop Off bus tour.
  28. Hungary - Budapest. Impressive Fishermen's Bastion.
  29. India - Lorrin's favorite country to visit. He rented a private taxi for 24 hours a day. Agra for the magnificent Taj Mahal. A must see in life. Chandigarh, a famous building by Architect Le Corbusier.
  30. Indonesia - Bali, Ubud. Fascinating temples. Outdoor showers. Good food.
  31. Ireland- Blarney Castle where Lorrin kissed the famous stone for his gift of gab. Cork. Dublin for fish & chips and pubs. Galway. Killarney. Limerick. Ring of Kerry. Waterford. What a fun country!

Italy - Assisi, Bologna, Florence (Lorrin was inspired by the greatness of the artworks, especially Michelangelo.), Milan, Naples, Pisa (Lorrin walked to the top on the Leaning Tower.), Ravenna, Rome (Magnificent with dancing fountains galore.), San Gimignano (A very rustic, colorful city.).   38. Mexico - Acapulco (Visited on a QE2 Cruise.), Cabo San Lucas (Visited on a Carnival cruise.), Cozumel (On the Harmony of the Seas cruise), Matzlan, Merida, Mexico City (Lorrin explored the country side by horseback.), Oaxaca, Tiajuana, Yucatan.
  39. Netherlands - Amsterdam (A boat ride on the canal and the red light district was fascinating.), Rotterdam (It's nice to see the windmills.).
  40. New Zealand - (Flew on small passenger plane to Mt Cook glacier and over a live volcano. Thrilled with a shotover jet boat ride.).
  41. Nicaragua - Only touched this country from a boat in Costa Rica.
  42. Norway - Arctic Circle, Dombas, Lillehammer (Olympic Village), Mo-I-Rana, Olu. Oslo (Vigeland Sculpture Park was wonderful.), Svolvaer, Tromso, Trondheim.
  43. Okinawa Naha. Machinato. Shuri Castle. Lorrin lived here for 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
  44. Panama Canal A must see adventure in a lifetime - on the QE2 world cruise.
  45. Poland - Jasna Gora (Saw the famous Black Madonna.), Krakow (Visited the astonishing Salt Mine.), Poznan, Warsaw.
  46. Puerto Rico - Very colorful. Visited on a cruise.
  47. Scotland - Edinburgh (land of the bagpipes). Fascinating castle.
  48. Singapore - Super modern. Clean. Great food. Loved the Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool. Wow!
  49. Slovakia (Nina's ancester's country.) - Bratislava.
  50. South Korea - Jeju Island by way of Volendam cruise. Enjoyable.
  51. St John. Took a taxi tour. Beautiful beaches. A visit on a Royal Caribbean cruise.
  52. St Kitts - Met the famous green monkeys. Nina made friends with a donkey.
  53. St Lucia - Gorgeous scenery. Pitons. Live volocano.
  54. St Martin- A beautiful island. A visit from a Royal Caribbean cruise.
  55. St Maarten - The Dutch side of St Martin. Inexpensive souvenirs.
  56. St Thomas. A visit on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Scenic views. Rugged coastline.
  57. Sweden - Stockholm (Enjoyed "Dinner" - a Chinese restaurant.). Cruise.
  58. Switzerland - Innsbruck, Lucerne, Zermatt (What a pretty little city.), Zurich.
  59. Taiwan - Taipei. Wonderful landscapes and delicious food. Visited the top of Taipei 101, 2nd tallest in the world at the time of our visit. Impressive National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Longsham Temple, National Palace Museum, Evergreen Vegan Restaurant. Jiufen, popular with tourists. Stayed at Dong Wu Hotel, good breakfast buffet. Rode the High Speed Rail. Easy to get around by cheap taxi and MRT. So much to see.
  60. Thailand - Bangkok (Lovely women everywhere. Delicious food. Wat Phrakaew Temple, Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho, Recling Buddha, Royal Grand Palace, Wat Arun Temple of the Dawn, Wat Tramit, Golden Buddha. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Rose Garden, Thai Fingernail Dancing, Cultural Show, Thai Boxing.). Chiang Mai. Fun Mae Sa elephant ride, bumpy ox-cart ride, and restful bamboo river raft ride. Orchid nursery. Wat Prathat Temple, Sankempaeng and Bosarng villages. Akha and Padong Long Neck Hill Tribes.
  61. Tortola, British Virgin Islands - Visit Bomba Bar...fascinating!
  62. Vatican - Totally awesome. Sistine Chapel. St. Peter's Basilica. So beautiful. Huge.
  63. Vietnam - Danang, Halong Bay (Scenic boat ride, spectacular limestone rock cave), Hoian (Japanese Covered Bridge, Tan Ky Old House, Assembly Hall, Phuc Kien Pagoda), Hanoi (Hanoi Hilton - the Hoa Lo Prison, Temple of Literature, Sword Lake), Ho Chi Minh City (motor bikes galore, King's Mausoleums of KhaiDinh and TuDuc. Cu Chi Tunnel, where Lorrin went into, colorful Water Puppet Show. Reunification Hall, General Post Office, Cathedral, Ben Thanh Market.), Hue City (Thien Mu Pagoda, Imperial City), Mekong Delta and Mytho (Boat ride, peasants houses, coconut candy factory.
